About
The museum was opened in 1929 thanks to the local history movement of the 1920s and the ethnographic circle, which included P.M. Sobolev, a literary critic, folklorist, lecturer at the National University of the City at school No. 3, professor at Smolensk University; biologist V.N. Kovaldin and, finally, V.A. Galkin, a teacher of physics and mathematics, the son of a former factory manager Zimin, who later became the first director of the museum.
V.A. Galkin thought boldly, broadly, on a large scale, the first exhibits were collected by him, he set the direction vector for the museum.
The museum was called "Tkach" and was located in a separate building in the courtyard of the twisting and threading factory (Moiseenko Ave.) and presented collections on archeology, geology, natural history of the native land, as well as materials about the city's industry.
Unfortunately, the museum's numerous relocations from building to building, first to the City Palace of Culture, then to the trade Union club, now the Rodnik Center, then to a new construction site where the museum shared the building with the fire department, and soon the arrest of the museum's director as an "enemy of the people" put the museum's existence at risk. and the real fire of 1939 completely destroyed some of the collections. The museum stopped accepting visitors, and then the war began.
During the war, the whole city worked at the front — 23 defense enterprises, 11 hospitals… It is not for nothing that the city of Orekhovo-Zuyevo was awarded the title of the city of Labor valor and Glory. What are the two halls dedicated to in the current museum?
Currently, the museum has over 40,000 items in its collections. These are complexes of unique materials on the history of the revolutionary movement, a large collection of objects on the development of textile manufactories of famous manufacturers and patrons of the Morozovs, materials on the history of football, the history of the theater. The museum has a collection of archeology dating back to 2-3 thousand BC, XII–XIV centuries, a collection of icons, clothing, numismatics, Kuznetsov and Dulevsky porcelain, posters "Windows of TASS" during the Great Patriotic War, household items, a rare book fund, a rich photographic fund.
